Great item for insulation and moisture control. My only two complaints: should include canvas or burlap liner to keep quilt material contained above the screen, and the wooden spacer bars below the screened layer are a welcomed addition, but need to be attached more solidly. I reinforced with drilled and countersunk screws.

The box was well-built – no issue. The wood shavings were very fine and a lot of it was just sawdust that fell through the screen at the bottom of the box.

This item is a great idea, and fits the hive well - but the shaving material leaves quite a bit to be desired. (no directions for placement/use included). Two bags of shavings came with the box order, and most of the material was overly fine dust. Thank goodness I filled the box before placing on the hive - as about an inch of fine particulate came through the mesh. I used both bags, and gave the box a good sifting to remove the dust - I am left with a good amount of insulation, but I would not use this type again. Cedar shavings + paper towels will be our next filler.
